Patricia Keppie

Title: Sports Education Co-ordinator

Work Experience

  • Designing, managing and delivering the curriculum for professional footballers for many years, including liaison with P.F.A., F.F.E. & V.T.S., and all local clubs at Accrington & Rossendale College. Football Clubs include Bury, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Oldham Athletic, Stockport County, and Burnley.
  • Teaching, assessing and verifying at levels 1 to 5, on NVQ/GNVQ including Sport & Recreation, Activity Leadership, ‘A’ Level Sports Studies; Management to N.V.Q. Level 4, Operational Management (B.A. Business Administration); Leisure & Recreation Management (I.S.R.M.), and Key Skills Levels 1 to 3.
  • Teaching on all programmes listed above; also managing the operation of Professional Footballers’ Academy Programme for over twenty years, including liaison with Professional Footballers’ Association, and provision of educational advice to local clubs and parents.
  • Teaching English as a Foreign Language and managing International Students’ Programme.
  • Lead Quality Auditor for Accrington & Rossendale College 1997-2000; Lead Internal Verifier, ensuring quality assessment systems and compliance with awarding body and inspection agency requirements.
  • Leading teams of volunteers to deliver support services to international media (World Canoe Championships, Nottingham, 1995) and to international athletes (Sydney Olympics, 2000).
  • Delivering training for volunteers for the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002
  • Work experience in retail & volunteer and event management, including managing Sports Information Services for the Canoe/Kayak Slalom Competition at the Sydney Olympic Games, both at the Olympic Village and at Penrith Lakes and running the Press Office at World Canoe Championships in Nottingham.

  • Ross was project leader for the Welcome Project (European Funded) Vocational Educational Programme bringing together students from 7 countries.
  • Prior to leaving Accrington & Rossendale College Ross was Acting Head for the Department of Business and Professional Services.
  • Marketing/International Marketing tutor training (CIM)
  • Responsible for English Speech Level 3, Vocational Proficiency Distinction (English Speaking Board) whilst at Accrington & Rossendale College
  • Student Counselling Course (Bolton Institute of H. Ed)
  • Lecturer in Marketing for Business and Travel & Tourism. Business Development Co-ordinator for the Business team/cross college divisional marketing representation. (International welcome project co-ordinator)
  • Whilst Marketing Director for EASE International involvement and organisation of running of English as a Foreign Language for both courses and students. Career developed through teaching assistant to Marketing Director. As Marketing Director responsible for the design, development and sales strategy for a programme of international summer courses at 10 UK Universities.

Work Experience:

  • Blackburn College co-ordinator for key skills with responsibility for standards across all vocational areas using the 1995 scheme and leading staff development for key skills 2000.
  • Cross- Blackburn College ILT Champion with a key role within various strands of ILT strategy within the College including staff development/training (including FPP), staff skills audits, intranet development (including NLN materials), production of an ILT Training CD (distributed to several colleges across Lancashire).
  • Leader of inter-college resource development group developing ILT resources and activities to support the teaching of key skills.
  • Member of Blackburn college lead verifiers’ sub-committee concerned with development of standardised college paperwork for the recording of assessment and verification processes for GNVQs and NVQs throughout the college.
  • Lead internal verifier for over 5 years for GNVQ I.T. and, later, NVQ I.T. courses at all levels and for key skills particularly I.T. within other vocational areas. Responsible for initially developing and standardising record keeping and other documentation for the GNVQ courses within the Computing and other, related, divisions. Liaison with external verifiers as appropriate. Carried out course review and evaluations.
  • Deputy Head of the Division of Computing assisting the Head in the general running of the division.
  • Co-ordinator of part-time courses within the division, covering several schemes and awarding bodies. Managing a team of approximately 10 part-time staff including timetabling both staff and resources.
  • Course Tutor for a range of courses including GNVQ I.T. levels 1, 2 and 3. Administration and management of the course and team of assessors. Arrangement of both internal and external work placements.
  • Lecturer and assessor for a wide variety of qualifications covering a range of abilities and ages in both F.E. and H.E.

Work Experience:

  • Placed in charge of NVQ I, II & III courses in Information Technology on a roll on, roll off programme.. Students numbers varied around the 80-100 mark being enrolled from a variety of sources including full time students under 18, New Deal, part-time day release, work base training students. Role involved the staffing, rooming, hardware resources maintenance of discipline issues, dealing with external examiners, portfolio building and their assessment.
  • At Accrington & Rossendale College initially involved in the lecture of Business studies related subjects including marketing, accounting, business law. Taught at a variety of levels including HNC/D, Chartered Institute of Marketing courses and A level. Moved to teaching computer related subjects.
